Flu/ Covid

Influenza, or “Flu” is an infection of the nose, throat, and lungs, which are vital parts of the respiratory system. There is also a variety of flu, called the “stomach flu” which causes diarrhea and vomiting. Most patients will get better from the symptoms of the flu on their own, but if symptoms persist, it’s a good idea to call the office at Make You Well in Colleyville to schedule an appointment to see a provider.

Complications from the flu can actually be quite serious if the patient is a higher risk individuals. These patients include children under 2 years of age, adults over the age of 65, pregnant patients, patients with chronic illnesses, and patients with a body mass index over 40. Another major concern in the patient population of Colleyville is Covid-19. The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads. Protect yourself by washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently. Get vaccinated and follow local guidance.

At Make You Well, we have state of the art lab tests to determine if a patient is infected with the Flu or Covid. We have on-site PCR tests that take a sample from the patient’s nose, and run them to determine if they are infected with the flu, or infected with Covid-19.
